The beautifull Villestrup river

VIllestrup when its best. The only chalk stream spring creek in Denmark shows good fishing theese days for small trout. Nyphing with size 18 gold head nymph was wery effective at mid day. Caught about 15 small trout on nymph and small klinkhammer dry's in an hour and a half.

Fished a small deep lake in northern jutland on a windy morning. Met Rasmus at 4.30 at a beatifull morning at the lake. After a couple of hjours with no fish I get two smal ones at a big flash fly made of rainbow flash that usually works good in clear water.

Spotting fish in the shallows

Fished all night in Maraiger at Vive with nothing but hundreds of smal needlefish chasing my fly. The needlefish were active even when it was darkest. Beautifull water. It looks wery healthy even in the bays. Think I want to slapslam some pikes tomorrow morning.

The pike gill grip

The pike gill grip. No harm to the fish and normally no harm to the hand. Make sure that you get your hand under the gill-lid and NOT inebtween the gills. Keep the fish in the water then it won't thrash so hard. Normally they are wery calm for half a minute, then release quickly.

Rasmus with the second fish this morning. Thees pics are send by mobile phone direct from the water. Look at the time to when they were caught. It was a mild and windy morning and the fish took right next to the banks. After theese two fish we fished intensively for an hour and a half with no fish. Its hard to figure out these pike.

Ivars bucktail pike slapslammer

I musst say. The good old bucktail should have a revival. Theese heavy dressed flies mooves neutral in the water and are easy to give the motion of a dying or wounded baitfish. In lakes with plenty of bait wounded or sick prey are the trick for triggering the pikes. I had a nice pike yesterday that took the fly in the surface over 5 meters of water. It felt like the pike came all the way from the bottom to take take the fly. Remember when you tie the flyes to use plenty of superglue in the process. Then you have a fly that last a long time.

An other great pike evening

After work trip to the local pikelake. What an average size!! We have only see a few small pike. Last night I had the take of the year: After an hour with no fish I had drifted to an other world and my mind was trying to keep up when the pike below jumped out of the water to take the fly only 3 m in front of me. The splash and my somewhat not masculine squeek boke the silence of the calm summer evening. Our gear gets tested to the fulliest. Theese pike are wery strong and the lake is deep. I will soon put on the fly patterns we use.

Mariager at three in the morning

Fished mariager fiord with Henrik Leth (www.brakvand.dk) Started out at three in hte morning in the pontoons. "sniffers" were cruising in 15 cm of water. You have to be wery quiet and delicate in the precentation of the fly. The pontoon boat is great to sneak up on the fish without spooking them. Henrik caught bunch and I think I willl try again tomorrow.
